Chocolate Cactus Designs | The Chocolate Blog bio picture

well, hello there!

Welcome to the Chocolate Cactus blogsite.  A little of this and a little of that, all rolled into one big ball of goodness.  Here you will be able to read the latest, see recent works and read random babbles all in one place.  You're one lucky duck.

With nine years of design experience and an accomplished marketing background, owner and creative director Jodi Bell prefers a straightforward, personalized approach to her design work. "Everything I design is done with marketing in mind," states this former designer for a Houston-based magazine. It is her philosophy that "Standout designs equal effective marketing". The result is that the marketing and branding process is made infinitely easier for her clients. Jodi's portfolio reveals her love of typography and clean, no-frills designs. It is this that makes her designs standout creations that market themselves.

Chocolate Cactus offers a variety of design work. Jodi's talents include creating complete identities to collateral materials and logo designs. Aside from logos, one of her specialties is custom one-of-a-kind announcements and wedding invitations. Because her clean, fresh designs appeal to a wide variety of industries, her client list includes not only photographers worldwide but also boutiques, auto manufacturers and just about everything in between.

Jodi has a special affinity for her photographer clients, most likely because she's a photographer herself, having won accolades and recognition for her photographic work. A self-professed font queen, Jodi lives in the Houston, Texas area with her husband and four sons. She continues the hunt for clean, fabulous typography...over 3,500 fonts and counting.

What can I say about Rita?  She is an amazing girl with an amazing talent.  She and I have grown close over the course of the last several years and I am lucky to call her not only a client, but my friend as well.  Rita recently branched the (quickly growing) boudoir side of her business, Besa Boudoir.  Something I loved is that both of her businesses are named using a word in spanish - this meaning “kiss”, which seems quite appropriate considering the genre of photography.  After doing a complete brand for her family/children’s photography side, Sonrisa Photography (which means “smile”), she wanted to keep with the same feel and font, therefore creating consistency with both brands.

Her project included:

  • Brand creation
  • Blog customization (ProPhoto theme)
  • Splash page design
  • Website customization (Bludomain)
  • Custom background image for website
  • Business card creation

Thank you Rita!  Keep it up girl - you are going far, and fast!!

branded : bridget ruiz

I recently had the pleasure of working with one of the sweetest gals I’ve met!  Bridget came to me in need of a brand for her newer photography business.  She mentioned wanting something earthy, clean and a tad modern to best represent her style.  After presenting her concepts, she chose this one immediately and I was quite pleased!  I also designed a custom watermark to go with her new logo.  Thanks again, Bridget!

Just a reminder that we will be closed for the holidays from 12/21 - 1/4 (although I will be doing a little more wrapping up on 12/21).  Like many of you, I will be spending some much needed time with my kids and family, and I hope that you do as well!  I will be returning emails when I return and template purchases will be sent at that time as well.

Jodi is in the hospital

This is Holly Curtis typing on the Chocolate Cactus Blog for Jodi.  I wanted to let all of her clients know that she has been in the hospital for the past several days.  She has been very sick and wanted me to let her clients know she was in the hospital unable to check her work email.  She is hoping to be home sometime over the weekend and will be trying to get back on email on Monday.  She profusely apologizes for the inconvenience and will be answering all emails just as soon as she can get out of the hospital and go through emails.  She could definitely use all thoughts and prayers you could send her way!

Warmly,
Holly Curtis
