Chocolate Cactus Designs | The Chocolate Blog bio picture

well, hello there!

Welcome to the Chocolate Cactus blogsite.  A little of this and a little of that, all rolled into one big ball of goodness.  Here you will be able to read the latest, see recent works and read random babbles all in one place.  You're one lucky duck.

With nine years of design experience and an accomplished marketing background, owner and creative director Jodi Bell prefers a straightforward, personalized approach to her design work. "Everything I design is done with marketing in mind," states this former designer for a Houston-based magazine. It is her philosophy that "Standout designs equal effective marketing". The result is that the marketing and branding process is made infinitely easier for her clients. Jodi's portfolio reveals her love of typography and clean, no-frills designs. It is this that makes her designs standout creations that market themselves.

Chocolate Cactus offers a variety of design work. Jodi's talents include creating complete identities to collateral materials and logo designs. Aside from logos, one of her specialties is custom one-of-a-kind announcements and wedding invitations. Because her clean, fresh designs appeal to a wide variety of industries, her client list includes not only photographers worldwide but also boutiques, auto manufacturers and just about everything in between.

Jodi has a special affinity for her photographer clients, most likely because she's a photographer herself, having won accolades and recognition for her photographic work. A self-professed font queen, Jodi lives in the Houston, Texas area with her husband and four sons. She continues the hunt for clean, fabulous typography...over 3,500 fonts and counting.

A new contest for you all!

Since the last contest, (which was a HUGE hit – thanks all!) I have had a million of you ask "When is the next one?!?!"  So here you go.

This contest will have FOUR winners!  Wooo!

FIRST & SECOND PLACE  | $200 off The Whole Cactus (logo design + letterhead/envelope design + business card design.  Letterhead/env can be substituted for promo/postcard design)

THIRD & FOURTH PLACE  |  $100 off logo design (3 concepts + 2 revisions)

I was recently faetured/interviewed on a blog.  The first FOUR people to post a reply here and tell me the following will win (but do not post the blog name or address to keep it challenging for the others!).  Prizes are given in the order replies are received.  Easy!

- What kind of camera do I shoot with?  (You’ll know if you "saw me" on this blog)

- What is the one question that I say helps me "immensely" in the logo questionnaire I send out?

This contest ends tomorrow so get it while you can!

Just a note:  After our initial email, the winners will be invoiced via PayPal, and will need to submit payment in order to be placed on my list of clients.  Without payment, I can’t mark you down (to keep it fair for the others).  No PayPal account?  I accept credit cards via PayPal.

Mikael - Girl you shoot the dark side, Nikon! as for the question: “What 3 adjectives would you use to describe the overall feel you want your logo to convey?” Did I win?

Jenn Conn - What 3 adjectives would you use to describe the overall feel you want your logo to convey?” You shoot with Nikon

Jenny - yay! another Nikon shooter. Can't beat the glass! From Bludomain where I found you in the first place! your question from the interview was, "What 3 objectives would you use to describe the overall feel you want your logo to convey?" I know I just hired you but I would love to take a consolation price of your actions?!?

Melissa Shelby - Nikon, although I can't tell what kind and the question - "and As far as the most important question, believe it or not, some of the most basic are the most helpful to me. For instance: “What 3 adjectives would you use to describe the overall feel you want your logo to convey?” – that one helps me immensely."

Jamie Wolma - Hmmm... I know the answer to the first question... I remember you having a Nikon because I shoot with a Nikon. And... I don't know the answer to the second question because I've only dreamed of hiring you. :) But... my guess is that you'd ask a question like: What feelings would you most like to evoke with your logo? Goodness I don't know... and I know that you've already had four postings but hey~ it was worth the chance huh? THank you for the opportunity~ keep up the good work. Your stuff is amazing! ... and some day, I will be hiring you for logo design. (I hope!... I'll keep my eyes open for more contests) Thanks! ~ Jamie

Virginia Mackel - I'll still give it a try... You shot with a Nikon And the question is........ "What 3 adjectives would you use to describle the overall feel you want your logo to convery?"

Cindy - Nikon What 3 adjectives would you use to describe the overall feel you want your logo to convey?

elizabeth harris - looks like there are winners already... but in case something falls through... In your January 15 interview: I loved your photo-- you are a Nikon gal! You said: As far as the most important question, believe it or not, some of the most basic are the most helpful to me. For instance: “What 3 adjectives would you use to describe the overall feel you want your logo to convey?” – that one helps me immensely. " love your work! -e

Jackie - I remember reading that interview! You shoot with Nikon and...."Yes, a questionnaire is vital to knowing the wants and needs of your client and looking into their “mind’s eye”. Some questionnaires that I have seen are, well, let’s say unrelated to design. If you get one that asks things like your dog’s name – run the other direction! Ha. As far as the most important question, believe it or not, some of the most basic are the most helpful to me. For instance: “What 3 adjectives would you use to describe the overall feel you want your logo to convey?” – that one helps me immensely. "
